The Interleaf Tag Team have completed the tagging of 150,000 items with RFID tags in the Ilac library in Dublin City including the unique musical collection.
The newly refurbished library in Ballyfermot is due to reopen on Monday 29th April with 3M RFID Self Service and Security.
During the last few weeks the Interleaf Tag Team, led by Peter Holzman, has been working closely with Una Gomez and her staff in tagging the library stock. This project has been unique as the stock was spread across two working libraries, the temporary library in the local Civic Centre and the library in the nearby Ballyfermot College of Further Education (BCFE).
Students of BCFE will have full access to the facilities of the new library – a unique and exciting cooperation between DCPL and the CDVEC. In addition to the college library the new Ballyfermot library will also house the Sé Geraghty collection (an extensive multi-disciplinary collection focused on Dublin) – available for reference for the first time.
Una is very excited about the inclusion of this collection and has envisaged her library members reading these books on inviting new comfortable furniture located throughout the spacious internal area or perhaps outside in the enclosed decked garden!
There are many reasons to visit this new library space in Ballyfermot – not least of which is the wonderful collection of early 1900s photos of Ballyfermot adorning the walls. You can enjoy a cup of coffee as you take a tour of the new facilities which the public in Ballyfermot will use and enjoy for many years to come.
