As part of its aim to develop and deliver an innovative, client-focused library service which supports and enhances the professional development of Nurses and Midwives, the INMO has chosen the Koha open source library management system to replace its existing system. Interleaf Technology has been contracted to implement Koha and to provide on-going support services.
With the Koha LMS, library staff access to the system is completely web-based: Searching, circulation, cataloguing, serials and reports, acquisitions and EDI are all performed using a web browser.
The online catalogue offers comprehensive search capabilities and a full range of personalisation services. Koha’s depth of functionality continues to evolve and expand to meet the changing needs of its user base as the latest release, 3.14, demonstrates.
Aileen Rohan, Assistant Librarian, said: “The move to Koha for the INMO Library has been a very seamless process. Right from the initial meetings with Interleaf, through the installation and set up, the support and training have been excellent. As we negotiate our way through the inner workings of Koha and customise it for our own library purposes, we have found great support and advice from Interleaf makes the task so much easier.”
Charles Quain, Director at Interleaf Technology added: “We are delighted to be working with such a high-profile organisation. Open Source Technologies and hosted solutions allow institutions with limited resources access to state-of-the art technology while achieving value for money and reducing the administrative load on the library and IT departments. This allows the library focus on service provision while we manage the system in the background.”
Founded in 1919, the INMO has three core goals:
· Improving and protecting the pay and conditions of members at national and local level through our team of full-time staff and elected local representatives;
· Ensuring the educational and professional needs of nurses and midwives are met through the provision of a wide range of courses and programme up to masters degree level; and
· Ensuring that the nursing and midwifery perspective is reflected, in the wider area of social policy, through active engagement and dialogue at political and governmental level.
Supporting these goals, the INMO Library & Information Service is Ireland's most comprehensive nursing/midwifery library. Information is of vital importance and easy access to information will help Nursing and Midwifery professionals make better decisions and improve standards of care.
