Continuing the reorganisation of Local Government in Ireland, Waterford City Council and Waterford County Councils merged into a single entity in May 2014 to form Waterford City and County Council. As part of this process many IT services need to be merged. The merged library system went live after the Local Elections in late May 2014
Interleaf Technology worked as part of a team with representatives from both library services to bring the systems together.
Waterford City and County Library
Waterford City and County Librarian, Jane Cantwell said: “Huge credit is due to the IT Staff from both Councils and both Library Services who worked hard with the Interleaf team to deliver this project on time. There were many challenges along the way but staff from Interleaf were on hand throughout the process and the merging of two complex and unique systems into one caused as little disruption to our public service as possible. We now have an up to date library management system which enables seamless access for the people of Waterford City and County to the vast library resources of these combined authorities.”
Martin McGovern, Director at Interleaf Technology added: “Bringing two library systems together into a merged service requires an enormous amount of work, and shows how superficially similar services differ a great deal. There were extensive discussions to create a solution bringing together the best elements of each system. We have supported both library systems for over 20 years and look forward to supporting the merged Waterford City and County Library service in the years ahead.”
